I can’t say how many times I come across the fact that meditation is good for your overall well being, with this being said, I am putting myself on a 30 meditation challenge. I’m going to be perfectly honest here, I have never been able to meditate. I am a busy Mom of three young adults, co-owner of a small business, wife, and fitness enthusiast. Who has time to meditate? Everyone from Dr. Oz to Oprah Winfrey promote meditation and say that they are able to work it into their busy lives, so, being that I’m a little less busy than they are ,I can’t use that as an excuse. For the month of January, I am going where I have never gone before, and it is my hope that I can learn the skill of meditation and make it a part of my daily life.
What Is Meditation?
If you are going to work any new skill into your life, you need to truly understand what it is. Meditation is a technique designed to promote relaxation, peace and achieve overall well being. This technique has been used for hundreds of years ago as a spiritual practice used by many different religions as a way of centering oneself, and quieting the mind to reach deeper love, compassion, and prayer. Meditation is more recently being practiced as a way of healing from the inside out, and reaching a new level of self awareness. Many people who suffer from things such as high blood pressure, and even depression, use meditation in their arsenal to get well.
My Meditation Challenge
My biggest challenge in practicing meditation will most certainly be quieting my mind. I have a hyper-active mind that, quite honestly, never shuts up. Sadly enough, I started my challenge on January 1st, and somehow already didn’t manage to even attempt my first meditation session. This only proves what a daunting task I have ahead of me. We are now in day 2 of my challenge, and I have a plan. Wish me luck…..
