Antibacterial Properties Of Garlic

Antibacterial Properties Of Garlic:

With summer now here, its the perfect time to get out, start that garden, and plant some garlic!  It is a common household herb used in cooking that may also have beneficial health benefits.  As a supplement to your diet, this can be consumed raw or taken in supplement form.  Garlic tablets that are enteric-coated limit the undesirable odor because they do not break down until the tablet has reached your intestines.  Supplements are made from aged garlic, dried garlic or garlic oil.

Garlic And Heart Disease:

Garlic may work to combat different forms of cardiovascular disease like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and atherosclerosis.  According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, garlic promotes heart health by decreasing homocysteine, C-reactive protein, platelet aggregation, blood pressure, and LDL cholesterol while increasing HDL or good cholesterol.

Garlic and Cancer:

Several long-term studies at various universities around the United States have led researchers to believe may be beneficial in the treatment of cancer.  The studies showed that a regular intake of garlic could show as much as a 30 percent reduction in the risk of certain cancers like colorectal cancer, colon cancer and stomach cancer.  The University of Maryland notes that garlic supplements may also help prevent breast cancer, prostate cancer and throat cancer as well.  Some further studies have also suggested that garlic help reduce the side effects of chemotherapy like fatigue and lack of appetite.

Garlic And Anti-Bacterial:

Garlic has 1% of the potency of penicillin and can ward off a number of bacteria such as Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli, Cryptococcal meningitis, Candida albican and Staphylococcus.  The problem with most antibiotics is that bacteria develops resistance to them, however this is not the case with garlic.

These benefits were first realized back in the early 19th century when English priests caught an infectious fever.  The French priests, who ate certain amounts everyday, did not.  Coincidence…possibly, but the anti-bacterial factor is a huge contributing factor.

Garlic And Sexual Health:Antibacterial Properties Of Garlic

Garlic has aphrodisiac properties, which could be utilized as an effectual sex rejuvenator.  The health benefits are further known to enhance the libido prowess of both men & women.  People who overindulge in sexual activities should take garlic in diet or supplement form to protect their selves from sheer nervous fatigue.

These health benefits were first realized centuries ago by mankind.  Extremely effective when eaten raw-(crushed or chopped). Just one clove per day may bring vast improvement in your over all health.  2 to 3 cloves could prevent an attack of common cold.  Used in cooking should be added last for more benefit.  But, taking too much garlic is also not very god as it may cause irritation in the digestive system.  Garlic should be added as a part of healthy normal diet, it need not be used as an alternative.  The only drawback being its pungent smell and taste that leaves a bad breadth, garlic is a medicinal boon for mankind.   If this article on garlic was helpful, please leave a comment right below my bio or hit the share button to share with your friends :-)

About the Author ()

Originally born and raised in Woburn Massachusetts (love my Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins!) I made my trek northward to the beautiful state of Maine back in October 2003 after marrying my college sweetheart. We began a family in 2004 and I am happy to say that we have 4 happy, healthy, beautiful children that bring an amazing amount of joy to our lives! I am also a type 1 diabetic. Diagnosed back in 2006 (out of the blue), at a routine doctors visit. Diabetes has single handed-ly been the biggest obstacle that I have faced in my life. At the time I had no idea of what a roller coaster ride I would be in for, I mean really, what's a couple finger sticks a day and a couple shots of insulin for food...this will be easy, I got this! Well 2 ER visits later, I quickly found out that this was no joke, and if I wanted to see my little ones grow up, this was something that I needed to take seriously! Little by little as we began to digest all of the information that was being thrown at us...fast acting insulin, short acting insulin, lancets, test meters, test strips, ketone sticks, carb counting, food groups, glucagon emergency kits, insulin pumps, glucose monitors...OMG, my head was spinning like a top!! After a couple of crazy years, I can happily say that I am well controlled and feel absolutely amazing! Not to be lost in all of this either is the amazing support of my wife. She has been my rock! She has been with me every step of the way, from 2am finger sticks to helping me change out a failed pump in the middle of a crowded restaurant. She truly is an amazing wife and mom and I can't imaging my life without her love and support- love you babe!
