natural mood enhancersSo many people today have resorted to prescription medication to help them deal with depression and mood disorders.  Most of these people legitimately need the medication, but some people think a prescription is the only way to go.  What did people do before these “happy pills”?  It is my belief that we are simply out of balance.

If you start by looking at diet, we are probably all lacking in many vital vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.  There has been a lot of press recently about low carbohydrate diets.  These diets have become popular because limiting simple carbohydrates will help you lose weight fast.  What people don’t realize is that when you also cut complex carbohydrates, your energy level plunges, and your mood goes right along with it.  Vitamin D deficiency also can cause depression.

The simple act of eating right and checking your vitamin levels can help us naturally improve our mood.  Omega-3 fatty acids have also been linked to relieving depression symptoms.  If you have trouble taking these supplements, try adding fish and walnuts to your weekly regimen.

Sometimes all we need is a little sunshine!  Lace up your sneakers and take a brisk walk for at least 30 minutes and your mood will thank you!
